The Roots of Ellinika Designs

This is the story of how Ellinika Designs started and what inspired us to start this journey into creativity and entrepreneurship.

As a Greek Canadian, I always struggled to find a card to celebrate someone's Name Day. Scanning the many many cards and designs at retail stores in Canada, there was never one that caught my eye. I was always forced to get a decorative blank design or a friendship card that said something very generic such as "so lucky to have you!". 

Fast forward a year from then, when I received a new iPad from my husband for Christmas and downloaded some drawing apps. I always enjoyed arts and drawing but didn't have a lot of time to practice and "play". Soon after that, we welcomed our son Elias into the world. While on maternity leave, I had more time to engage in my passions and hobbies compared to the hustle and bustle of being at work.

It was only a few months in when I put these two ideas together; or rather one problem and one potential solution. I thought that maybe I could create some greeting cards for those around me celebrating Name Days. I started with a few Xronia Polla designs with Greek themes but from there, my creative side took off and I created my first collection of cards titled "It's all Greek to me" with a number of themes and celebrations.

Throughout my professional experiences, I worked in a number of administrative jobs so starting a business was completely new to me. I read A LOT online about what was needed and started setting up my business. From registration, creating a website, designing a logo and branding, and more. I connected with a local printing company to see if they would be able to support my business with quality greeting cards that looked both professional and lasted a lifetime. When I finally received my first set of cards, I was thrilled! I felt such a sense of accomplishment and pride that I created something that others could give to loved ones to show their love and appreciation.

All of my designs are created by me with influences in my life. Almost all of my designs have a hidden story behind them with memories and/or loved ones in mind. All are created from the heart and shared with the world!

Since the creation of Ellinika Designs, I have been blessed to participate in a number of markets in Ontario where I can meet Greek and non-Greek customers and have the honour of selling my items online to people near and far from our home in London, Ontario. I am thankful for each order that comes in and appreciate the continued love and support from my husband, family and friends.
